Foundations of Early Childhood Education Certificate

This certificate program is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions needed to work effectively with young children from birth through age eight. Students gain hands-on experience through coursework and a supervised practicum in a licensed early childhood setting. The program emphasizes developmentally appropriate practices, culturally responsive teaching, and strategies that promote the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth of young children.
This certificate serves as an excellent entry point into the early education workforce and meets the educational requirements for the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Teacher certification.

Program Learning Outcomes Students who complete this certificate will be able to: - Demonstrate understanding of child development from birth through age eight, including developmental milestones and individual variations.
- Design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers that support all domains of learning.
- Create positive, inclusive, and safe learning environments that foster healthy social-emotional growth and respect for diversity.
- Apply effective guidance and behavior support strategies to promote self-regulation, cooperation, and positive interactions among children.
- Observe, document, and assess children’s learning and development to inform teaching decisions and communicate progress to families.
- Collaborate with families, colleagues, and community partners to support children’s holistic development and family engagement.
- Demonstrate professionalism and ethical conduct consistent with the standards of the early childhood field and EEC regulations.
