HUS 107 - Fundamentals of Children’s Behavioral Health
This course is an introduction to key concepts, terminology, and practices in children’s behavioral health care. Emphasis is placed on mental health disparities and providing culturally competent services to racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities. Topics include systems of care, community health promotion, trauma-informed care, and roles, such as Family Partners, Therapeutic/Peer Mentors, Behavior Technicians, and Community Health Workers. Students gain a foundational understanding of advocacy, special needs, psychiatric disorders, trauma, resiliency, and self-care for the children’s behavioral health workforce.
